We had to wear paper slippers and got to see a traditional Japanese house (with a traditional Japanese toilet!).

Strawberry Picking Day

You would find raspberries and blackberries through July and August. This photo is a little overexposed..because I really wanted to capture those little strawberries under the shadow of their trees.

Pink

Taken: Inca Trail, Peru @ March 8, 2006
Our second day of the Inca trail hike, the most difficult day. Our goal was to walk 10 km to the highest point of the hike, 4200 meters, to the peak in the middle of the picture, (our guide said it looked like a woman breast). The peak is called Dead Women Pass, because it supposed to look like a woman lying down. It was really hot and sunny walking up I had to convert my convertable long pants to my shorts. On the way down from the pass, it was so cold (and we were in the clouds!) we had to put on sweaters, jackets, hats, and gloves! It was an awesome experience.

Cuzco

Sacsayhuaman was the Temple of the Sun, the most important temple dedicated to the Andean Cosmology and their God. It's located just outside of Cuzco. The Cristo Blanco (White Christ) next to Sacsayhuaman was a gift from the Palestine Arabs to the people of Cuzco.

On a side note, our tour guide called Sacsayhuaman "Sexy Women" to help us remember the complicated Andean name. This girl happened to lie down at the right place for me to capture. :)

Sacred Valley

Closed up pictures of the two llamas eating eucalyptus leaves. They looked like they were smiling at the camera, didn't they? At first I thought they were alpacas, but our tour guide said they were llamas. Llamas were bigger and had longer necks than alpacas. Both llamas and alpacas were local animals to the Incas and also to the current Cuzco/Sacred Valley locals. They were used to transport light-weight stuff. Their wool and meat were used for cloth and food.

Llamas in Sacred Valley

After an 8-hour flight from New York to Lima, Peru, 2 hours of sleep, and another 1-hour flight from Lima to Cuzco, here we were riding on the bus, finally on the way to Sacred Valley and enjoying the incredible landscape of Peru (and of course, their local animals, llamas and alpacas). The houses of common Incas were built using mud similar to the one in the picture. For the Inca nobility, their houses were built using stones/rocks, just like those in Machu Picchu.

May Peace be in our Homes and Communities

I found this pole in front of a church on the way to school this morning. Each of the four sides is written in four different languages. The English side says "May Peace be in our Homes and Communities," and I believe the other three languages, French, Hebrew, and Persian, say the exact same thing. It's nice to see languages used in conflicting countries written for peace together...if only those countries could actually find peace.

Blizzard II

Taken: Hoboken, NJ @ February 12, 2006
I wonder if the fisherman ever loses excitement in fishing. What would he do if he were jaded? Does he have other work options? I just feel so jaded at the moment.. about all things, work, life, and even photography..
I would have liked this picture in color, but my color version was so dull. I also forgot to change the ISO setting in my camera. It was set to 200, which caused my little amateur digital camera to produce so much noise.. so sad.. :( Well, instead of agonizing over it, I make the photo B&W, exaggerate the noise a bit, and I'm quite satisfied with the outcome. :)

Nubble

Taken: Quebec City @ June 2005
It is just a small angle of the gigantic Frontenac Hotel in Quebec City. The hotel itself is a historic site and it is the only skyline of the historic part of Quebec City. It took more than 100 years to build, and it is real grand. :) No, I didn't stay there. We didn't even dare checking the price.

Hong Kong from the Ground

More Hong Kong skyscrapers. This will be the last picture from Hong Kong. I didn't take too many pictures in Hong Kong. Besides the main purpose of trip which was a conference, we just went on shopping and eating spree.. :)

Hong Kong Skyline

Taken: Hong Kong @ August 2005
Spectacular view of Hong Kong skyline from the top of Victoria Peak. Hong Kong in August is in monsoon season, and there are hardly any clear days. When we first got up, the Peak was in a cloud. The visibility was zero (see how bad it was). Luckily, after half an hour, the sky cleared up and showed us this spectacular view.

Symphony of Lights

I still have a few more San Francisco pictures that I like, but I just can't wait to post some Bali pictures.. so here it is. :) I asked some locals there. They said the flags were supposed to be a symbol of purity. I saw them at my best friend's wedding and at some religious buildings. Sometimes the flags were all white, some were all red, and some have some kinds of patterns on them. I don't really know why they are different.

Bird Rock

Taken: Monterey Bay @ May 2005
I have been on vacation after vacation. Nebraska, San Francisco, Bangkok, Bali, Singapore... and I was in Montreal and Quebec City during last week of June and went to a beach in Long Island, NY during fouth of July weekend. This past weekend I also celebrated my birthday. :) Summer is great!!! I'm now back to my normal daily life, so I'll try to regularly update the blog.

As for this picture, it's a picture of Bird Rock. I took it through those 25-cent telescope. Somehow it makes the picture look so surreal, don't you think? Bird Rock is a rock along the 17-mile drive in Monterey Bay where all those birds hang out. There are incredibly so many birds there! I still couldn't figure what kind of birds they are.

Golden Gate Park

Taken: San Francisco @ May 2005
We went biking across the Golden Gate Bridge. It was an awesome experience getting so close to the magnificent structure. It was quite scary, though, because of strong wind. We then biked to Sausalito and took a ferry back to SF. We didn't want to return the bike yet, so we rode along the SF waterfront and ended at this pier with great SF skyline.

Lincoln, NE

Taken: Lincoln, Nebraska @ May 2005
My tourist pictures from Lincoln, NE. :) The first three pictures are from downtown Lincoln and the last one (with a guy and a bike) is from University of Nebraska...which is actually right next to downtown. Lincoln has so many sculptures (as shown in three of the pictures here. :) I guess they try to make this boring town a bit more interesting.

I have been real busy with work and traveling and didn't have time to sit down and update my blogs. After Nebraska trip (for work), I came back to Philadelphia to unpack and also pack for my San Francisco trip the very next day (for pleasure!!). San Francisco was so much fun. It's just a lovely city. We were in the city for a few days and drove down to two beach towns (Monterey and Carmel) and also Napa Valley. I'll put up a few pictures from SF up sometimes later. Well, that might have to be after I get back to Bangkok.. Yes, I'm travelling (again!) to Bangkok on Wed May 25. I'm not sure how often I can get an access to the internet there. So, I'll see when I can update my pictures.

Stick Friends

These hugh stick figures are located on a bridge connecting between South Street and Penn's Landing. Actually, there are three of them supposedly being a stick family, but since I captured only two, they are stick friends. :)
Taken: South Street, Philadelphia @ May 2005
This colorful grattifi is located at 10th and South Street in Philadelphia. South Street is considered a funky part of Philly. There are few art galleries, a lot of tattoo stores, cool shops, and great food. We parked right next to this building on Saturday and I just couldn't help but took its photo. :)

Moshulu

Taken: Penn's Landing, Philadelphia @ May 2005
This ship is a restaurant called "Moshulu", so that's how the name of this picture comes from. It's gorgeous, isn't it? It's very expensive, of course, so I haven't got a chance to eat there yet. The bridge in the background is Benjamin Franklin Bridge. It connects Philadelphia, PA and Camden, NJ.

Penn's Landing is a waterfront promenade right next to Delaware River. There are a lot of activities going on there. During Winter, outdoor iceskating rink is set up there. The new year fireworks also take place there. During summer, it's All-You-Can-Eat Ice Cream Festival on 4th of July weekend! All year rounds, there are a lot of nice restaurants and a few on boats (Moshulu, Spirit of Philadelphia), and Seaport Museum.

I have been working hard until Saturday evening for my paper deadline. Finally, it's done, so I dragged my boyfriend to South Street and Penn's Landing just to walk around. This ship is located right at Penn's Landing and its picture is an awesome award for my hardwork this week. :)

Candles

Taken: 30th Street Train Station, Philadelphia @ Apr 2005
I love this picture, especially the rustiness of the train tracks contrasting with the modernness of the buildings. There are also so many elements in the picture but somehow it doesn't look too crowded.

It might seem irrelavant to call this picture "Love", but I call that because it's really personal to me. :) The buildings in the background are parts of Philadelphia skyline. Philadelphia means the city of brotherly love. I live in Philadelphia, but my boyfriend lives in Hoboken, NJ. (It's right across NYC where he works.) Every weekend I take the train (shown in the picture) to see him. The very track on the left is the route where the train takes me up north...to see him whom I love so much. Yah, that's why it's called "Love". :)

Church Next Door

Taken: Fort Lee Historic Park @ Apr 2005
When I saw this well, it reminded me of the movie "The Ring." I have seen only the preview, but that's enough already. Anyhow, we went to Fort Lee Historic Park this weekend. We drive by this park all the time but never realize it's a public park. I guess there are always interesting places so close by that we haven't discovered. As for this photograph, I like it just because the boy seems so interested in the well.

In respond to the comment that the compression artifacts around the hard edges are distracting, I post the original photograph. I was trying to soften the background, but I guess I didn't do a good job. My original intention is trying to put focus on the well and the boy, but my camera has a very limited manual focus feature. So, I thought I could just use a software to soften the background. You think my original photograph is better?
